A "first-timers" ponderings...

i accidentally posted this improplerly so i'll try again.... i'm a "first-timer"- so please be gentle ( or at least use lube).

can we try and look at the bible's message without any preconcieved notions that we've been fed?

read it as if we've been lost on a desert island our whole life- what would we come away with?

They lived relatively "normal" lives for the times with varied customs all the while somehow remaining "favorable" in God's sight- HOW? They didn't have religious "managers" dictating to them how to be or act at every curve life threw at them. Yet their example is written down as worthy of imitation? ...
Jesus preached to many people "the good news of God's kingdom", yet only a few were his close followers. The majority he told to go home and apply what little they had learned (pretty simple).

The message was simple. Be good to yourself and those around you.

Unfortunately organizations are motivated by an intention of seeking to retain the masses to reinforce their own sense of what is right or wrong. Organizations tend to lean towards defining loyalty as being "true to their cause" instead of being "true to one's own Authentic Self".

Left to their own devices, most humans will make the right choice. Only when we have to be loyal members of an organization do we start to find ourselves in trouble, because when we become a loyal member of any organization, not only do we inherit their positive values as our own, we also inherit their enemies as our own, and we inherit them without scrutiny.

While I feel that some writers and contributors to the books found in the Bible tried to forward the idea of ?following your heart? because they believed that all humans can find ?god within?, I have little doubt that the Bible was compiled by those whose interests are vested in organizational success, rather than individual happiness.

Take care of people, and people will take care of you.

well, it's been one year since i first came to this lovely board, and i have to say, it's been a lot of good times.

thanks to everyone for keeping the homefires lit.. it was also encouraging to see so many new ones.

i'm happy to report that for the 2004 jwd service year (ends dec 14), we had spectacular growth.

DF'D WITNESS GETS THE BETTER OF DUB

oh man, this is hilarious.......a friend of mine who left the borg a few years ago and is now df'd, was making a delivery (he's a truck driver) to a company where they're all witnesses.

he knew they were dubs, but they had no idea he used to be one.

as he was finishing his delivery, one of them says to him "did you know that jesus did not celebrate his birthday on december 25th?

my son answered the door this morning.

the couple that my mr.horton and i had been studying with when we were considering going back to the truth finally got ahold of him.

the did the usual routine.

I don't have any advice beyond what has already been said, but I did want to comment on them giving your son a hard time about praying before a meal.

What are they looking for? A self-serving, pompous display of prayer before every meal? Have they forgotten Jesus' Sermon on the Mount?

We walked out of my mom's memorial service

I'm sorry to hear this. Sorry for your loss and then to have the inhumane behaviour of "god's people" bubble quickly to the surface. I don't know if I could have been as dignified as you were in such a circumstance.

Missed oppourtunities as a JW kid?

jw kids are repressed in every aspect of their lives, creatively, intellectually, atheletically...the list goes on.. what did you love to do as a kid, yet weren't permitted to do?.

i personally loved football as a kid.

other jw kids and i would play every weekend until the subject was brought up at an assembly as being competitive.

Missed oppourtunities as a JW kid?

I'd like to give myself a swift, stern kick in the ass for not taking the full scholarship I was offered, for fighting with my high-school counselor to allow me to take a pass on college to Reg Pio , and pass on an internship working at an architectural studio that would have paid my way through archi school to reg pio.

Man what an arrogant, self-righteous, JW dumbass I was.

Damn, now I'm 15 years behind schedule. At least I woke-up when I did, I still have a good part of my life left

Working at an architectural firm now, plan on going to archi school soon, so that's cool.

Passing up family get-togethers, school social events and friends to be a good JW, well, that's water under the bridge, but it still kinda pisses me off.
